Café Madrid plays Pamplona

The phrase "running with the bulls" would seem to indicate that you and the bulls share the act of running together in blissful athletic harmony. In fact, the bulls are chasing you, and when they catch you they don't graciously congratulate you on a good race. They impale you. Or, as in my case a few years back, they toss you into the air to collide violently with a stone doorway before the building's occupants yank you inside and save your drunken, bleeding ass from being trampled. Café Madrid has a better idea: Celebrate the running of the bulls by donning the traditional red sash, dancing some flamenco, chugging sangria and posing with a miniature version of Spain's kitschy bull silhouette billboards. The free event is Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Café Madrid, 4501 Travis Street. Call 214-528-1731.
